Unlike the line your cousin made you stand in at the Hirshhorn Infinity Mirrors exhibit, the wait to get into The Brixton actually goes by pretty quickly. And once you do get inside, you can choose between the casual bar downstairs, the dance floor on the next level, and the open air rooftop that looks over U Street. The crowd here leans younger, so just know that some people out there dancing to “Filthy” won’t know that Justin Timberlake used to have frosted tips.

It gets crowded on the weekends, but El Rey is a reliable spot for after work drinks and Mexican food around U Street.
Solly’s U Street Tavern
Make Solly's your go-to for a casual beer around U Street, and definitely get involved with the Sloppy Mama's BBQ they serve.
Right off U Street, Takoda has a nice (but small) rooftop and some good bar food options. We like it for a day drinking session or even a casual date.

Try Black Jack for a casual pre-going out group dinner on 14th Street. We endorse the bucket of fried chicken.
Clare and Don’s Beach Shack
The tiki theme at Clare and Don's is mildly cheesy, but the drinks and Mexican food are great. Head to the Falls Church spot for your next Happy Hour.
Martin's is one of the oldest restaurants in Georgetown. And while the American/pub food is fine, you're really here for the history lesson.

A classic that can be used for dates or heavy drinking. Maybe even at the same time. The food’s great too.
Calico has one of our favorite patios in Shaw, as well as cocktails in Capri Sun-style pouches and shareable small plates.
The food at Colada Shop is just okay, but the space and location make it a good place for a quick meal around U Street.
