Washington DC’s restaurant scene faced a big challenge after the pandemic forced many to close or offer takeout only. The District is now under Phase Two, which limits service to outdoor service and indoor service up to 50% capacity for seated patrons only. The city also allows restaurants to temporarily expand their outdoor dining areas, with owners using sidewalks and part of the street to expand outdoor seating. From extended sidewalk seating to hidden gems, restaurants all around the city have reinvented the outdoor dining space to make the dining experience enjoyable despite the restrictions.
