We feel the same way about Nightbird in Hayes Valley. They serve a ten-course tasting menu for $125, which is less money per course than a typical cocktail in SF. Combine this with the fact that there are multiple bread courses and that all of the food, from the quail egg starter to the sorbet, is great, and it makes this spot one of our favorite tasting menu restaurants in the city.
