Matt Horn’s ascent to the BBQ Big Leagues (a real thing, thanks) started when he began making his slow-smoked barbecue at farmers’ markets and pop-ups. And now, after months of delays, Horn Barbecue’s long-awaited debut has arrived. Located in the old Brown Sugar Kitchen space in West Oakland, Horn Barbecue is serving pulled pork, half and whole chickens, beef ribs, and brisket, which is smoked for 18 hours. You can also get sides like potato salad, pit beans, and cornbread, and desserts like banana pudding and rum cake, which are baked by Nina Horn, Matt Horn’s wife. Horn Barbecue is open Friday to Sunday from 11am-5pm.
Horn BBQ’s philanthropic effort, Horn Initiative, is offering free meals for government workers, restaurant workers, families, and children within the community. Check out their Instagram for the latest updates.
