One great lesson we learned from Phil Connors is that even if you’re stuck living the same day over and over, you should still strive for some variety. And while we don’t think we’ll master the French language or make an ice sculpture of Andie MacDowell while we shelter in place, we can definitely change up what we eat. If you’re in the mood for Thai, these are great places for takeout and delivery.

For more ways to support the restaurant industry now, you can find some ideas and resources here.

Farmhouse Kitchen

Thai  in  Mission
$$$$ 710 Florida St

There aren’t many restaurants in San Francisco where we can close our eyes, pick from the menu, and end up with something great every time. Farmhouse Kitchen is one of those places. If there’s a spicier papaya salad in this city, we haven’t found it, and the hat yai fried chicken with yellow curry and panang neua short rib that falls off the bone are our go-tos for birthday meals. Right now they’re offering free delivery and discounts on pick-up - check them out on their website, or order through apps.

Hawker Fare

Thai  in  Mission
$$$$ 680 Valencia St.

The khao mun gai chicken with chicken fat rice is a well-executed Thai classic, but our favorite thing to get from this spot in the Mission is the sai oua sausage because it packs some serious heat. They’re doing takeout (you can pre-order by calling 415-400-5699), brunch on the weekends, and house cocktails to-go.

House of Thai

Thai  in  Tendernob
$$$$ 901 Larkin St

Our go-to from this Tendernob spot is the gang jerd woon-sen soup with ground pork, tofu, and silver noodles. It’s hot enough to light the fuse for a shuttle launch, but when you get it to-go, it cools down to the perfect eating temperature. Call 415-441-2248 or go to their website to order.

Khan Toke Thai House

Thai  in  Richmond
$$$$ 5937 Geary Blvd

This spot in the Richmond does American-Thai classics (satay, green curry, pad thai) well, and you can order for takeout and delivery from their website.

Lers Ros Thai

$$$$ 307 Hayes St

If you’re sheltered in place with a few roommates, order takeout from Lers Ros. This place has a huge menu of family-style dishes, and the portions are large - if you order three or four things, you can get a lot of variety for roughly $15 a person. We like the pad kra pow moo krob pork belly with crispy skin and the duck larb moo/phed yang that’s spicy and sweet and sour, but if you want something more carb-heavy, get the pad see-ew and pad Thai. Order on their website for pick-up or delivery from their Mission, Larkin, and Hayes locations.

Thai  in  Japantown
$$$$ 1625 Post St

Nari makes some of the best food in the city, period. They’re now offering a shortened takeout menu that includes some of our favorite dishes like their spicy laab hed salad and sticky pork belly. And, short of turning your living room into an obstacle course/nightclub, eating their food is the most exciting thing you could do this week - it’s much safer, too.

Rooster & Rice

Thai  in  Cow Hollow
$$$$ 2211 Filbert St

The menu at Rooster And Rice is full of simple things like poached chicken, rice, and cups of chicken broth, which are perfect when you realize you’ve been sitting around eating nothing but Oreos and Goldfish for the last few days. If you want extra vitamins in your meal, you could sub in salad for rice, but we like sticking to what this place is named after. You can get Rooster And Rice for takeout from their Marina and Castro locations or delivery through most major apps.

Shlap Muan

$$$$ 50 Post St

All of the rice plates, chicken wings, and sandwiches from this spot in the Crocker Galleria are under $10, which makes this place great when you’re looking for lunch on a budget. We like the pork sandwich with salty braised pork, cucumbers, and jalapeños on a soft roll, and the Our Filipino Friends rice plate combo with wings and a fried egg and topped with a sweet and salty master sauce. They’re open Monday through Friday from 11am-3pm for takeout and delivery through apps. Check out their Instagram.

Anchalee Thai Cuisine

$$$$ 1096 Dwight Way

Anchalee makes some of the best Thai food in Berkeley, and we especially love going here for the pad thai and the yellow curry. They’re offering takeout and delivery through the apps. Call 510-848-4015 to place an order.

Bua Luang Thai

$$$$ 1166 Solano Ave

The menu at this spot in Albany reads more like a short novel (yes, it’s that long) - and we’re not complaining. They’ve got most of the standard Thai appetizers, curries, noodles, and rice, but our favorites are their signature pumpkin curry, larb, and the pad thai. We like to end the meal with an order of sticky rice and mango (or two, so you can save one for breakfast tomorrow). Order online for pick-up ($25 minimum) or delivery ($35 minimum).

Champa Garden

VietnameseThaiLaotian  in  Ivy Hill
$$$$ 2102 8th Ave

These days, we’re grateful for Zoom, frozen meals from Trader Joe’s, Florence Pugh’s cooking on IG Stories - and Champa Garden’s fried rice ball salad. This spot in Oakland’s Ivy Hill is technically a mix of Laotian, Thai, and Vietnamese, and we can always count on their delicious pad thai. Call 510-238-8819 to order pick-up or delivery.

Daughter Thai

$$$$ 6118 Medau Pl

Daughter Thai, the Southern Thai-focused sister restaurant of Farmhouse Kitchen, does everything well - but their spicy dishes are the standout. We’d be happy to eat the kang kua prawns and fish curry for at least one meal a day, along with the papaya salad (which we also love to get at Farmhouse Kitchen). This Montclair spot is also offering a free kid’s meal with every order - call 510-823-2354 for pick-up or order delivery through the apps.

Farmhouse Kitchen

Thai  in  Jack London
$$$$ 336 Water St

It’s always a good idea to order as many dishes as will fit on your table at this spot in Jack London Square - but one of the best options right now is the Little Lao Table Set. For $59.99, you get food for four people, a free kid’s meal, and so many items - like fresh rolls, samosas, papaya salad, panang short ribs, fried chicken, shrimp fried rice, and drinks - that you might almost remember what variety looks like. And if that’s not enough, their regular menu is also available for takeout. Call 510-419-0541 for pick-up or order online for delivery.

Hawking Bird

$$$$ 4901 Telegraph Ave

The casual sister restaurant of SF’s Hawker Fare, Hawking Bird specializes in khao mun gai (poached chicken over chicken fat rice) - but we never leave without ordering a side of their chewy, flavorful garlic noodles. They’re offering catering specials along with their regular menu, which you can order by calling in (510-593-2376) or walking in.

Imm Thai Street Food

$$$$ 2068 University Ave

Imm Thai in Berkeley serves one of our favorite papaya salads in the East Bay, as well as a really fantastic pad kee mao - and don’t forget to order their house Thai tea to wash down your noodles or curry. Call 510-898-1123 to order for curbside pick-up or delivery (only delivering in Berkeley with a $30 minimum).

Neecha Thai

$$$$ 3236 Grand Ave

Neecha Thai in Oakland is our go-to spot whenever we have a taste for noodles. And we usually order the pad thai, pad see-ew, and pad kee mao whenever we’re here. This neighborhood restaurant is offering takeout daily (call 510-451-9419) and delivery through the apps.

Spice I Am

$$$$ 1353 Park St

This Thai spot in Alameda nails the salty-sweet combinations, and everything from their mango chicken to pineapple fried rice to the pumpkin curry is great. But really, you can’t go wrong with any of their spicy, fresh salads. Call 510-522-8679 to order for pick-up.

Summer Summer Thai Eatery

$$$$ 5885 Hollis St

Summer Summer is a great Thai spot in Emeryville that serves delicious fresh rolls and spicy pork salad. If you’re quarantining with a house full of teens or your roommates and their significant others, they’re also serving a few different family-style trays for 10-12 people. They’re also offering 50% off bottles of beer, wine, and sake if you order for takeout. Place your order online.

Toomie's Thai Cuisine

$$$$ 1433 Park St

Toomie’s in Alameda offers a lot of great seafood dishes, like shrimp wontons with plum sauce, spicy seafood salad, and choo chee catfish. Aside from their regular menu, they’re also offering a catering menu featuring egg rolls trays that could also double as weights for your next arm workout. Order for pick-up (call 510-862-8008) or delivery here.

$$$$ 6048 College Ave

We need a distraction from everything that’s happening right now. And for us, that distraction is diving straight into a bowl of duck noodle soup from Yimm Thai. If you’re not in the mood for soup, try their pumpkin curry, pad see ew, or chicken wings doused in a spicy, tangy sauce. Yimm is open for takeout (call 510-250-9678) or delivery via apps.
