Purple Yam serves traditional Filipino food (along with some Korean and Chinese-inspired dishes) in Ditmas Park. Appetizers like scallion and shrimp pancakes, and entrees like pig cheeks and snout with lime and chilies, are served family-style. While they have some interesting vegetable sides - grilled eggplant with burnt coconut cream and green mango - most of the food here is pretty heavy or fried. The casual space has booths inside and a nice backyard, both of which work well for groups.

Brooklyn's Di Fara is the best slice of pizza in New York, and worth every bit of the $5 and 30 minutes of waiting that it will cost you.
You’re going to need an hour on the train to get to Tanoreen. But if you appreciate Middle Eastern or Mediterranean food, it’s more than worth it.
