Warm weather is here, vaccines abound, and the Williamsburg bridge is still incredibly difficult to bike over. But most importantly for our purposes today, a range of restaurants and chefs are hosting special events and pop-ups this week. That’s why we’re curating a weekly list of all the most intriguing stuff to eat and do around the city. Here’s what’s happening from April 19th to April 25th in NYC.

After spending the last year perfecting New York-style pizza at home, Chef Wylie Dufresne is now selling his 12-inch, thin-crust pies every Tuesday through Thursday at Breads Bakery near Union Square. You can place your order ahead of time on Tock to pick up things like a delicate everything bagel pizza with a thin layer of cream cheese and mozzarella, a spicy romesco pie topped with grilled ramps, and a breakfast calzone stuffed with piping hot scrambled egg, creamy Muenster and American cheese, and scallions. Are you surprised there’s already a waitlist? We’re not.
Our fingers have been crossed for several months, hoping this Crown Heights all-day cafe and wine bar would finally announce its opening. The time has come. Daughter is hosting an opening party this Saturday, April 24th and Sunday, April 25th from 8am-8pm with a special pop-up menu from Chef Alix Ferguson, and ice cream projects Cold Moon and Bad Habit. In addition to breakfast and lunch options like an egg and cheese and a chickpea salad sandwich, you’ll be able to pick up a couple of grilled skewers, spring salads, and some bigger mains like a braised short rib with guajillo pepper and honey, and a harissa chicken sandwich.
This Queens-based BBQ catering project is selling a ton of delicious-looking smoked meat and sides on the corner of Crossbay Boulevard and 149th Avenue in Ozone Park on Saturday, April 24th. You can preorder by messaging them on Instagram or stop by starting at noon for takeout meat tray specials filled with brisket, pulled pork, ribs, pickles, and Dominican cornbread. They also sell smoked meat by the pound, which sounds like a recipe for an idyllic Saturday. Check out the menu and ordering details here.
DaleView Biscuits & Beer
Daleview Biscuits & Beer is hosting a gallery opening event at their restaurant on Friday, April 23rd starting at 5pm, showing work from photographer Greg Horan. You can stop by for their regular menu of west coast IPAs and biscuit sandwiches, and buy some prints for a good cause. Half of the proceeds from photograph sales benefit the Racial Justice Network in Minnesota. Find more information here.
Here’s a restaurant opening to mark on your calendar: this Thursday, April 22nd, Momofuku Ssäm Bar is reopening in their new South Street Seaport location on Pier 17 (where Bar Wayo used to be). The restaurant’s new chef, Eunjo Park, previously ran the kitchen at Kāwi in Hudson Yards. Expect some of Kāwi’s best dishes to be featured at the new Ssäm Bar, like some starchy-chewy rice cakes covered in a spicy ragu, and deluxe kimbap.
