From handmade pork dumplings and hot chili fried chicken to genre-defying pastries and carne asada tacos, these are the delivery-only spots you should keep on rotation.
If there were an award show for at-home bread bakers, we’d hope the owners of Back Alley would present a golden loaf to the winner wearing Valentino gowns on Zoom. This delivery-only bakery was started by two chefs who worked at spots like Blue Hill at Stone Barns and The Grill (respectively) before the pandemic hit. Now, they’re focused on baking excellent bread, honey buns, brown butter cookies, and beignet-like doughnuts, which are all available for delivery across most of Brooklyn, Thursday through Sunday.
Summerlong Supper Club
A group of NYC restaurants including Atoboy, Llama Inn, Cafe Paulette, Rahi, Contra, Glasserie, and more have joined forces to create a weekly delivery-only supper club, and you can join if you sign up by January 17th. The dining program comes with 16 different three-course chef tasting menus, that you can purchase for $65 per week or a total of $800 for the year. The goal is to help restaurants survive the winter months by bringing amazing food straight to your apartment, and you can read more about it all here.
Gastronomy Underground is a Mexican restaurant that offers two weekly taco dinners for delivery in Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Bushwick, Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn Heights, Gowanus, Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Sunset Park, Red Hook, Flatbush, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, and Midwood. Every order comes with a print-out detailing the pre-Hispanic roots of each dish and a QR code linking to a curated Spotify playlist made by Gastronomy Underground’s chefs. Currently, they’re serving a $45 carnitas feast with homemade corn tortillas on Tuesdays and a $50 carne asada feast with homemade flour tortillas on Sundays.
Neighborhood Bread started out delivering fresh loaves to select neighborhoods in Brooklyn back in March 2020. Since then, they’ve expanded their pastry menu to include a bunch of excellent pastries like cardamom buns, Portuguese egg tarts, and danishes topped with poached pears and sweet potato cream. The restaurant is currently taking orders via Instagram DM, and delivering to a few Brooklyn neighborhoods Monday through Wednesday.
From red velvet ice cream infused with whiskey to spiced pumpkin pie, Dre’s Desserts specializes in sweets you won’t find anywhere else. It’s also a great place to order some excellent chocolate chip cookies that’ll far outshine the store-bought cookie dough cubes in your freezer. Every Monday, the restaurant posts a new menu on Instagram and starts taking pre-orders, which will all be delivered across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens the following weekend. Be sure to DM them your order or add a few things to your cart on their website before 12pm on Thursday, which is when weekly pre-orders officially close.
You know a bakery is serious about sourdough when they offer a tasting menu with four different quarter loaves of the stuff. Starting January 14th, Kemi Dessert Bar will return from its brief hiatus with Thai tea custard buns, made-to-order cakes, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and more. The bakers behind Kemi have worked at places like Dominique Ansel Kitchen and Ai Fiori before spending all of their time making incredible pastries based on some of their favorite sweets from around the world. Kemi Dessert Bar will offer hand delivery in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island, plus nationwide shipping on select items.

This rotating dinner series features three-course meals from Black female chefs focusing on foods of the African diaspora. We loved Chef Kia Damon’s Southern creole menu in 2020, which came with rosemary lemonade, a pickle platter with pimento cheese, a comforting chicken creole with cured egg yolks, and calas (sweet rice fritters served with chicory powder and caramel sauce). When we heard that La Newyorkina is closing its West Village location for good on January 10th, we considered buying a second freezer just to hold a year’s supply of their Mexican ice cream. Thankfully, that won’t be necessary because this dessert shop and bakery will continue to sell its incredible ice cream, along with things like rosca de reyes, pozole, churros, and conchas online after they close their Manhattan shop. A chef who used to cook at Eleven Madison Park has opened his own hot chili fried chicken restaurant, which requires diners to join a waitlist before placing an online order. For $35, Pecking House offers three large pieces of fried chicken with sides like smashed cucumbers, dirty fried rice, or tomato-tofu salad.
