Eating House is a Coral Gables restaurant that can really go one of two ways for dinner, depending on your mood and order. This can be a super casual place to eat way too much food or a slightly nicer restaurant good for a date and some wine. But unfortunately, it doesn’t do either of those things very well. If you do come here to feast on their perfectly good fried chicken and waffles or the incredibly huge pasta carbonara, it might feel a little strange to see a quiet table of two to your left enjoying sea scallops and grilled duck breast - and vice versa.
The food here isn’t awful, and the service is good too. If you find one thing on the menu that you really love (like the awesome queso frito with a fantastic guava and Ironbeer dipping jam), maybe you’ll come back. Otherwise, it’s just hard to find a reason to spend a decent amount of money at a restaurant that can’t decide what exactly it is.
