“I want really good Mexican!”
Raise your hand if you hear that every time your out-of-towner friends climb into your car at LAX. Our city’s Mexican food has a well-earned reputation of being among the best - not that most of our non-Angeleno friends would know it when they saw it. We aren’t here to judge. We are here to show them the way of Mexican cuisine.
Gilbert’s is the perfect place to take your out-of-town friends and family. The food at Gilbert’s is accessible and good. Come for a burrito and a strong ass margarita and the gang is going to walk out happy. They even serve breakfast seven days a week. If allowed, we would potentially consider rolling dinner into breakfast by sleeping in one of their booths.
This family-run spot’s been open for over 35 years, and is filled with Mexican tchotchkes they’ve clearly been collecting for at least that long. It’s also always filled with a good crowd. We promise that your friends will love it so much they won’t even complain about the lack of “cheese dip” on the menu.
Have some vegetables with your fried tortillas. You'll enjoy them.
Nachos with lots of hot peppers. There is beauty in simplicity.
Simple but great. That being said, if you’re considering a burrito, you have our blessing to skip these and move right along to the main event detailed below.
Meat (beef, chicken, or pork), beans, avocado, and lettuce, all topped with melted cheese, tomato, chile ortega, and verde sauce. The chicken’s our favorite, but we’re pretty sure you can’t go wrong with this beast.
