We’ve officially hit the early summer sweet spot. Temperatures are still pleasant, Pride month celebrations are in full swing, and that nostalgic childhood dread of school restarting in August has yet to enter our psyche. To top it all off, the next five days are stacked with events ranging from Pride parties, outdoor movies, pastry pop-ups, food drives, and more. Here are the most intriguing things to do and eat around LA from June 23rd through 27th.

Compton Girls Club

Chillin' Under The Rainbow

$$$$ 601 S Acacia Ave.

This Saturday, June 26th from 10am-3pm, Compton Girls Club will be hosting a Pride picnic for LGBTQ+ teens and youth. There will be plant and food plating demos, a tie dye station, sound bath and meditation, scrapbooking, and tacos served for lunch. Admission is free, but be sure to sign up through their Instagram to reserve a spot.

Cinespia

$$$$ 6000 Santa Monica Blvd.

It never feels like summer in LA without Cinespia, and luckily, the popular movie-in-the-cemetary series is officially back. This weekend, they’re celebrating the final weekend of Pride month with a showing of the Australian drag classic, Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert.” Tickets are already extremely limited, so [go get them now] and pack up that picnic basket with as much cheese and wine as you can handle.

Pearl Pride Party

There might not be an official Pride parade this year, but that doesn’t mean the party isn’t happening in Weho this weekend. If you’re looking to dance, serve looks, and get a little wild, snag a ticket to the Pearl Pride Party at Montrose West Hollywood rooftop this Sunday, June 27th. It runs from 1-8pm, so bring your best poolside kaftans and big floppy hats. Tickets start at $30 for GA and go up to $125 if you reserve a cabana.

Aesop Queer Library

$$$$ 8368 W 3rd St.

Running from Thursday, the 24th through Sunday, the 27th, Aesop is turning their entire W. 3rd St. store in Beverly Grove is a queer library pop-up. The collection houses approximately 6,000 books including 150+ iconic works from LGBTQIA+ voices, particularly highlighting BIOPIC and trans stories. Each visitor gets one book for free. The library hours are 11am-7pm.

POP-UPS TO KEEP AN EYE ON

Yellow Paper

The popular Eastside smashburger pop-up is back this Sunday, June 27th at Glendale Tap after a two-week hiatus. It runs from 1-5pm or until sellout - which will absolutely happen, so if you’re interested, get there early.

Pave Bakery

Pavé Bakery

$$$$ 712 Vallejo Villas St.

Preorders are open now for this coming weekend at Pavé Bakery in Northeast LA. Operating out of a condo complex, this French-inspired bakery is cranking out everything from rye kouign amann to brioche beignets to soft cinnamon rolls with sweet potato bread. Pick-ups are from 9am-12pm this Saturday, June 26th.

Poolside Cinema

Currently celebrating its 100th birthday, The Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica is hosting a Poolside Cinema Series every Saturday featuring cult classics like Indiana Jones and cold classics like Frozen. Tickets are $25, with complimentary popcorn and additional food items for purchase provided by FIG.

Big Sunday

Backlot Summer Nights

Big Sunday is hosting their first ever Backlot Summer Nights this Friday, June 25th at 7pm at their headquarters on Melrose in Hollywood. The event will include outdoor music, art displays, and drag performances all from up-and-coming local artists. Admission is free, but you are asked to bring non-perishable food or clothing, all of which will be donated youth and families facing housing insecurities.

People's Pantry

This Saturday, June 26th, People’s Pantry LA is doing a food and supplies drive in El Sereno from 11am-4pm. Wishlist items include general house supplies, cookies supplies, and food, but monetary donations are always accepted. For more details, check them out @peoplespantryla.
