Whole chicken broasted

“I made repeated order-and-collect visits to The Best Broasted during the November lockdown, and while I’ve tried quite a lot of their menu, it’s the whole chicken broasted that kept me coming back. There’s something about it that gets me all metaphysical. “If broasting is like frying,” I’d wonder, while waiting for this Syrian spot in Willesden Green to prep my order, “then why is the chicken not even remotely greasy?“. And, “how can it be so juicy, so crunchy, and so sweet?“. I’ve yet to come up with any satisfactory answers, which is all the more reason to continue my love affair with this excellent chicken in 2021.” - Oliver Feldman, Senior Editor

Broasted chips - £4

When we think of the chipped potatoes from this Syrian spot in Willesden Green, we find ourselves getting tangled up in all kinds of riddles. What is a chip? When does a potato become one? If a crisp has soft pillow of potato inside it, is it still a crisp? Whatever the answers, one thing for sure is that the crispy chips (or are they chippy crisps?) at The Best Broasted are amazing.

Chicken broasted

Bedtime is the time for big philosophical questions. Years ago, I was wishing my nephew sweet dreams when he asked me “What makes the night so quiet? And why is water clear?“. Similarly, early this week, I was tucking myself in and wondered, “if broasting is like frying, then why is the chicken from The Best Broasted not even remotely greasy?“. And, “how can it be so juicy, so crunchy, and so sweet?“. Thinking about it now, the only question that really needs addressing is this: why don’t I live closer to this Syrian spot in Willesden Green so I can eat their incredible £10 portion of broasted chicken, potatoes, pickles, and creamy toum several times a week?”
