Manteca in Soho is one of London’s many handmade pasta spots with a slightly industrial feel, a little foliage, and lots of wine. But much like watching Jordan Peele films, doing karaoke, or sending your ex a text message littered with the word ‘luv’, this one is most suited to nighttime. During the day, you’ll find an affordable laidback lunch situation, but thanks to their great wine list and cosy evening look it really comes into its own when you’re looking for a proper charmer of a date spot or somewhere for a long red wine fuelled catch-up with one of your favourite people. Although there are a couple of duds on the menu, if you stick to dishes like the ox cheek ragu pappardelle, the pink fir potatoes with cods roe, and their excellent pork chop with celeriac mash, you’ll be set for a great meal.
