Perla’s Seafood & Oyster Bar

Written by
Maggie Svodoba

Perla’s is the best upscale seafood experience you can have in Austin. The quality is high, the menu is big, the space is big and bright, and it’s located right in the heart of the (gentrified) South Congress action. Everyone loves Perla’s - especially out-of-towners. Bring them here and they’ll probably never stop talking about how great it is.

While Perla’s sister restaurant Clark’s has more of a smaller bistro ambiance, Perla’s is the much bigger restaurant and offers way more variety across the board. Austin isn’t exactly known for seafood, so it’s impressive how many options are offered at Perla’s. We prefer Perla’s over Clark’s, because we feel like we’re getting a lot more bang for our buck in terms of food and atmosphere.

As for the scene, Perla’s is usually filled with ‘cool’ moms sipping wine on the patio overlooking the plebeians of South Congress lined up to take photos in front of the “I love you so much” graffiti sign.

Food Rundown

Come during happy hour (from 3-6pm) to get a 50 cent discount on each oyster. This can go a long way towards locking up some afternoon delight.

Lobster Omelette

Doused with creme fraiche, caviar, and a few pieces of lettuce. This is a power brunch move at Perla.

Lobster Roll

It’s rare to a get a good lobster roll anywhere south of the Mason Dixon Line. When you find a good one, you eat it. And this is a great one.
