The original location of Epoch up on North Loop is a near-classic Austin institution – it’s open 24 hours, there’s a random collection of furniture, extension cords hang down from the ceiling – and the one downtown couldn’t be more different. Opened in 2018, it’s a much more modern experience – all glass, concrete, and blonde wood. They serve very good coffee (from Wild Gift and Onyx), Tacodeli tacos in the morning, sandwiches, and beer and wine. While it can get a little loud, because it’s tucked on the western fringes of downtown, it’s generally a relaxed space to hang out or work (with lots of outlets). And if you want to take a break to get some Vitamin D, Epoch is also right near the trails on Lady Bird Lake.
